On August 20, 1981, a building half the size of the present Arrowhead Market, contained a dentist office, a rental apartment, and the newly opened Arrowhead Grocery & Deli. The building had been in existence for many years and been occupied by many short-lived businesses. The Delligatti family aspired to break this undesirable tradition by providing the residents of Deep Creek Lake with the shopping experience that they needed and wanted.
The building that houses Arrowhead Market has seen many changes, including remodeling, expansions, and improvements over the years. Major remodeling happened in 1982, 1985, 1991, 1994 and 2006.
Arrowhead Market was originally only a grocery and deli. Over the years, we have grown and added other new services, including gasoline, lottery, UPS, Fed Ex and hot food. We were and still are a small grocery store, not a convenience store.
There were originally only a total of six employees; summer personnel now total over 60. The original store was 750 square feet. We now have over 6500 square feet of merchandise area. Where there was a small gravel parking lot, we now have a greatly enlarged paved lot that contains two gas islands. We strive to continually improve and refine the products and services we offer to our public and the Deep Creek Lake area.
